Hi Parrot People. I am here to tell you, living with parrots should be stress-free!

Yes, they get sick sometimes or exhibit behaviours we may not like then we visit the Vet or a parrot behaviour consultant, get the problem sorted and move on.

If we are doing our very best for our parrots — which we should be!! they should be happy, healthy and full of fun.

ASK THESE QUESTIONS REGULARLY……
1. Are we feeding right?
2. Are we housing right?
3. Are we cleaning right?
4. Are we loving right?

Diet or rather incorrect diet causes illness and bad behaviours. We have loads of fruit and veg on the market, so buy 1 of each and start feeding right.

Housing should be spacious, well maintained, and clean. With TOYS! and clean feeding dishes.

Cleaning should be done once a week, everything, cages, perches, toys.

Love time, if you can only manage 1 or 2 hours a day when you get back from work, make them count. Talk to your parrot, explain everything.

If you are stressed, sick, grieving, fighting, your parrot will pick up on this and act in strange ways, doing things he normally doesn’t do.

PARROTS ARE VERY CLEVER !!

Know your birds routine–his likes–his dislikes–his moods.
Parrots are allowed to have a bad day! We do!

THINGS  THAT CAUSE STRESS TO PARROTS…….

Moving furniture, hanging new pictures, introducing a grandchild, introducing a new pet, changing his routine, changing his house, a particularly bad thunder storm, being scared of the dark, letting off fire works, losing a mate, being subjected to loud thumping music.

THINGS THAT CAUSE STRESS TO PARROT PARENTS……

Just sitting when he usually plays, tossing food he usually eats, not coming out of his cage as normal, wanting to go to bed early, chewing feathers, plucking feathers, screaming, biting, biting his feet, shaking his wings as if begging.

A parrot behaviour consultant will be able to help you decide if you need help.

Lets be sensible–allow your parrot to be a parrot!
Seek help if necessary.
Ignore if possible!
